Tiny Prints

Tiny Prints is a greeting card publisher that accepts unsolicited submissions for a variety of occasions.  They use three main styles of cards: sentimental, simple, and humorous.  They have detailed guidelines for how they want submissions to be formatted, so be sure to read the complete guidelines before sending in your ideas.  Tiny Prints pays $15 per accepted idea and they generally respond pretty quickly.  These guidelines come courtesy of WritersWeekly.

Blue Mountain Arts Poetry Card Contest

The greeting card publisher Blue Mountain Arts is holding a poetry card contest with prizes of $300, $150, and $50.  There don't seem to be any restrictions on poetic style or form, though you'll probably stand a better chance if you submit poems that are similar to cards that BMA tends to sell.  You can submit through the contest web page or by snail mail.  The contest deadline is December 31st.

Moonlighting Cards

Moonlighting Cards publishes greeting cards that have a message on the front and are blank inside.  They are looking for ideas that are less than 20 words, and they pay $25 for each one they buy.  You'll also receive 12 copies of the card with your words on it.  They like humor, as long as it's not sarcastic or rude.  Submissions can be made by email (no attachments).

Papyrus

Papyrus is a greeting card company that was formerly open to unsolicited card submissions.  However, the guidelines page for the website is currently missing, so that may or may not mean they are no longer open to submissions.  An update will be posted here as soon as more information can be found out.

Comstock Cards

Comstock Cards is a good market for writers who can come up with clever and funny greeting card ideas.  They pay $50 per idea for all rights, and are mainly looking for cards that are either "outrageous" or "sexual."  Submissions can be made by snail mail or email, but if you email them ideas you won't hear back unless they want to buy something.  Response time is one to one and a half months.

Recycled Paper Greetings

Recycled Paper Greetings seeks submissions of artwork for their greeting cards, but they would ideally like to see artwork accompanied by writing.  Submit up to 10 card mock-ups by mail.  The editors strive to respond within two months, but you can submit your ideas to other companies during that time.  Payment is negotiated individually.

Slogan Slingers

Anyone who writes novelty slogans or greeting cards should consider joining up with Slogan Slingers.  It's a web site that tries to pair businesses that need slogans or tag lines with writers of slogans and tag lines -- really a great idea.  It's free to sign up, and if your slogan is chosen you could earn from $200 to $999 (minus a 10% administrative fee).  Once you sign up you'll be able to see and enter the current slogan contests, and the site is good about getting the contest holder to provide as many details and specifics as possible to help you write the best slogan.
